Bird Watching
Khao Nor Chuchi-Khao Pra-Bang Khram National Park, which is a lowland forest, has one of most diverse bird species in the whole of Thailand. There are as many as 200 species of birds, including migratory birds. Many birds nearing extinction are found here. Some of the rare birds are Crested Fireback, Malaysian Honeyguide, Jambu Fruit-Dove, Crested Wood-Partridge, Diard’s Trogon, Red-crowned Barbet, Javan Frogmouth, Ferruginous Babbler, Black-throated Babbler, Chestnut-rumped babbler, Striped Wren-Babbler, Rufous-crowned Babbler and Large Wren-Babbler – the list is endless. However, the most famous resident of the Park is Gurney’s Pitta, which was earlier assumed extinct. Also, found here are the rare birds, Banded Pitta, Hooded Pitta and Giant Pitta.
Fishing
Krabi is famous for big game fishing. Barracuda and Giant White Snapper are the most common ones. The operators even promise ‘No Fish No Pay’, as a catch is so assured. Regular fishing trips are conducted during the daytime. However, boats are available for hire for fishing expeditions during night and early morning hours. Tourists are allowed to keep their catch. Some hotels even offer to cook the catch free.
Golf
Pakasai Country Club is Krabi’s only golf course. It is situated in Neua Klong district, about 11 kms. from the Krabi Airport. A round of golf here costs 1,200 baht, including equipment rental, caddy and green fees. Golf package tours are on offer with a few other attractions thrown in. Phuket, which is a two-hour drive from Krabi, has better golf courses, confirming to international standards.
Rock Climbing
Krabi, with a cent-percent safety record, is the place for initiation into rock climbing. Rai Leh, rated among the top ten in the world, is dazzling with sea as a backdrop. It has marvelous cliffs with numerous limestone caves. You are assured immense satisfaction after a session here.
Scuba Diving and Snorkeling
Krabi with its numerous tiny islands surrounded by fascinating live corals and variety of colorful fishes, is the ideal spot for scuba diving and snorkeling. The pristine turquoise-blue water is too much to resist for diving-enthusiasts. Off Ao Nag, there are about 15 diving sites, all reachable by boat within an hour.
Sea Canoeing and Kayaking
Krabi with its crystal clear water and mangrove-lined coast is the perfect place for kayaking. Boats are available for hire for kayaking trips on hourly or daily basis. You get to spot wildlife on kayaking spots near Ao Tha Lane and Ao Luk. Commonly found are otters, monkeys and exotic birds. Krabi River is another kayaking site favored by tourists. Still better is a trip to Hong Island, but is located further away.
Thai Boxing ( Muay Thai)
Weekly Thai Boxing matches are held at Koh Lanta Mini Stadium. Though the matches are not on as large-scale as the ones held in Bangkok, it is authentic and exciting.
